Why is Sunscreen Important?

If you've ever been to an esthetician they have probably told you, that you need to be wearing SPF every day no matter what. We tell you this for a reason. We want you to wear sunscreen to protect the results of all the treatments and products you spend your money on every month. What's an extra $30 dollars to protect the $1000s you would be throwing down the drain if you didn't wear sunscreen. "Well I don't go to an esthetician so I don't have to wear SPF everyday". Your WRONG!!! And I'm going to tell you why!

Why is Sunscreen Important?

Sunscreen is important because it protects our skin from ultraviolet light(UV). The skin is our largest organ; it helps to protect us from infections, toxins, and any harmful substances we encounter in our activities of daily living.

Other Benefits of SPF:

Moisture: Sunscreens often contain ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and other ingredients that hydrate and nourish the skin. Dry skin is more susceptible to sun damage and acne.

Pigmentation: Sun exposure can cause dark spots, melasma, and uneven skin tone. Sunscreen can help prevent these conditions from occurring and prevent these conditions from worsening if they have already occurred.

For the friend who never wears SPF…

Exposure to UV rays( and tanning) damages the skin. Over time, this damage to our skin and skin cells builds up. When our skin and cells are damaged, we are at increased risk for developing skin cancer.

How to properly apply SPF:

Sunscreen should be applied to any exposed area of skin. It should be applied to dry skin 15 minutes prior to going outside. Sunscreen should be reapplied every 2 hours or sooner after swimming and sweating. Remember to apply sunscreen to your feet, neck, ears, and scalp. You should also wear a wide brimmed hat and sunglasses. Sunscreen should be worn every day even when it's winter or overcast.
